  • Beginner terrain 20%7/10

Enough to learn at West Village. The mountain is not a green-run kingdom — 60% advanced.

  • Childcare & kids programs 15%9/10

State-licensed, 6 weeks–10 years, confirmed on the resort's own childcare page. Off-season 'year-round' is 2024 reporting, not the current page.

  • Affordability 15%7/10

Ikon days plus Bend lodging. Not Beaver Creek money. 26/27 kids-ski-free pass with Outplay 365 or Full Season.

  • On-mountain 10%6/10

West Village for families. No pedestrian village on the hill.

  • Non-ski 10%7/10

Bend is 30 minutes and is the whole non-ski product. High Desert Museum, a river, restaurants.

  • Travel 5%8/10

Redmond (RDM) ~30–40 to Bend, then ~30 to the hill. The access road is not a canyon death march.

Our take

If you need daycare that is not a rumor, start here. Bachelor is why Oregon is on the map. The kids-ski-free copy is good and specific — read the deadline. I would fly a family with a baby to Bend before I sent them to Whistler to discover the daycare is residents-only.

Perfect if

  • A non-skier under 5 who needs licensed care visitors can actually book.
  • Ikon households who can get to RDM.
  • A Bend week, not a volcano day trip with no plan.

Skip if

  • Missing West Village and starting the kids on the wrong side of a volcano.
  • Sitting on the adult pass until the fall price step.
  • Anyone who needed ski-in lodging on the hill.

Biggest tradeoffThe best licensed visitor-facing age range we found in this expansion, on a mountain with no village and a lot of advanced terrain.

Ski school deep dive

Ski school is 25% of Family Score — the heaviest weight, on purpose. This mountain: 8/10. How we score.

Care is the verified story. Lesson prices and class caps are not. Do not pick the wrong base on a volcano.

Researched from official pages and 2026 reporting. Fields marked unverified are unpublished by the resort — we will not invent an age, a class cap, or a price.

Childcare

Licensed daycare, 6 weeks–10 years (resort site). Ski-day hours. Off-season operation is not stated on the resort childcare page — call before you count on it.. Unverified — the resort does not publish this. We will not guess.. Licensed. The best licensed, visitor-facing age range we found in this expansion. Book it as if it were lodging.

Visitor booking is the part that actually matters. Compare Mt. Bachelor against the childcare table.

Beginner terrain

  • Carpets: West Village.
  • Learning area: Real, and not the whole 4,300 acres.
  • Greens: Enough to learn. The mountain is not a green-run kingdom.
  • Progression: Stay west until pizza is boring.

On mountain

On-mountain lodges. Bend is the dinner.

West Village for families. Sunrise is a different mood.

No pedestrian village on the hill. Bend is 30 minutes and is the whole non-ski product.

Non-ski

  • Bend restaurants and river
  • High Desert Museum
  • Lava Lands

Kids programs

  • Kids ski school
  • Licensed daycare 6 weeks–10 years

Getting there

Redmond (RDM). Transfer: About 30–40 minutes to Bend, then ~30 to the hill. The access road is the rare Western road that is not a canyon death march. Still winter. Still traction. Possible from Bend. A car is simpler with daycare drop-off.

Family of 4 / day (2 adults, 2 kids: lifts + rentals + 1 group lesson)
Ikon days plus Bend lodging. Not Beaver Creek money.
Pass
Ikon. 26/27: kids 12 and under get a free season pass when an adult buys an Outplay 365 or Full Season Pass. They step pass prices up in the fall — that's a buy-early deal, not a buy-now-or-the-free-kids-pass-vanishes one. Check the current pass page. Multi-day: ages 6–12 can ski free the same number of days as parents on advance-online Kids Ski Free products. Not the same as 'always free at the window.'

What six days on snow costs

Family of four: window tickets × 6, rentals × 6, one 3-day kids' lesson block. Not a week — lodging isn't in our data, so it isn't in this number.

This page doesn't have dollar ranges we can add. We will not invent a six-day total.

Estimate your family, not a generic four →
