Our take

This is the affordability anchor the first 14 resorts did not have. I would rather send a family of four here for a week than watch them buy window tickets at Beaver Creek and be angry by lunch. The score is 6.5. The recommendation is louder than the score. Southwest Colorado, on purpose.

Best for: Families with kids 12 and under who can get to Durango and do not need infant care.

Ski school deep dive

Ski school is 25% of Family Score — the heaviest weight, on purpose. This mountain: 6/10.

Published: ages 4–6, full day 9:30–3, lunch in, lift ticket extra, $209–$249. No published ratios and nothing structured for 7–12. That's why ski school stays 6/10 even with the numbers filled in. The family fact is still the free child pass.

Age 4 Winter Experience Program, ages 4–6, full day 9:30am–3:00pm. Drop-off from 9:00am, pick-up 3:00pm. Lunch provided. Published 25/26 dates: December 6, 2025 – April 12, 2026; 26/27 dates not yet posted.

Group pricing

$209 Monday–Thursday · $229 Friday–Sunday · $249 peak days (holiday and spring-break periods). Lift access is not included — you buy that separately. Kids 12 and under still need the free Power Kids Pass or a free kids day pass before the lesson.

A single narrow age band (4–6) with nothing structured published for 7–12. Cheap for a full day. Not a full-age campus.

Beginner terrain

• Carpets: Base.
• Learning area: Uncrowded, which is a teaching condition money cannot buy at Breck in March.
• Greens: Enough for a first week.
• Progression: San Juan terrain with space.

Getting there

Durango (DRO) or Albuquerque + drive. Transfer: DRO about 40 minutes to the hill, 25 to town. This is not a Denver day trip. Six hours from DEN. Frame it as Southwest Colorado or do not come. Altitude is real but lower drama than Breck. Possible from Durango. A car is the family default.

Power Pass. The kids product is a free season pass, not a Tuesday coupon. No blackouts on the lift access the resort advertises for 12-and-under.
