6:1 and Dollar Mountain are on the resort's children's-lessons page. Age 4 is the group floor we could print. Lesson dollars still unpublished.
- Beginner terrain 20%8/10
Dollar is a separate mountain from Bald, and the right first hill. It is not beginner-only — park and harder terrain live there too.
- Childcare & kids programs 15%7/10
Care exists in the Sun Valley ecosystem; visitor ages and licensing were not clean enough to print. Unverified.
- Affordability 15%4/10
Independent luxury-adjacent. Not Purgatory. Not Beaver Creek either.
- On-mountain 10%8/10
Dollar first. Bald when they are ready. Dollar is not a kiddie-only hill.
- Non-ski 10%8/10
Ketchum is a real town. Dry sun. A walk that is not a canyon.
- Travel 5%7/10
SUN in winter has real cancellation risk. Have a Boise plan. Base about 5,750 feet.
Our take
Dollar Mountain is still the sentence. Separate from Bald, the right campus for a first-timer, and not a toy hill — park and harder terrain are there. Altitude-sensitive families should look here and Snowbasin before Summit County.
Perfect if
- First-timers who can reach Dollar Mountain.
- Altitude-sensitive families who would suffer in Summit County.
- A mixed family that will not start on Bald.
Skip if
- Betting the whole trip on a single SUN flight.
- Starting little kids on Bald because that's the famous one.
- Anyone who needed published visitor daycare numbers.
Biggest tradeoffDollar is its own hill and published 6:1 — independent prices, and an airport that cancels.
Ski school deep dive
Ski school is 25% of Family Score — the heaviest weight, on purpose. This mountain: 8/10. How we score.

Beginner terrain
- Carpets: Dollar Mountain carpets.
- Learning area: Its own hill, not a fenced postage stamp on Bald.
- Greens: Dollar is where you learn. It also has challenging terrain and a legit park. Bald is still the big mountain.
- Progression: Graduate to Bald when they are ready. Do not start a 4-year-old on Bald.
On mountain
On-mountain lodges with a pedigree. Ketchum is dinner.
Classic. Not a mega-plaza.
Ketchum / Sun Valley village — a real town, walkable enough, sunny more often than the Wasatch in January.
Non-ski
- Ketchum town
- Ice skating
- Tubing on Dollar
- Dry, sunny rest days
Kids programs
- Dollar Mountain ski school
- Tubing
- Ice skating in town
Getting there
Friedman Memorial (SUN) or Boise (BOI) + drive. Transfer: SUN is close. BOI is 2.5–3 hours.. SUN in winter has real cancellation risk. Have a Boise plan. Base elevation is the other gift — 5,750 feet. Resort and town buses. A car helps.

What six days on snow costs
Family of four: window tickets × 6, rentals × 6, one 3-day kids' lesson block. Not a week — lodging isn't in our data, so it isn't in this number.
This page doesn't have dollar ranges we can add. We will not invent a six-day total.
