Banff with kids

You stay in Banff town. You do not ski out of the hotel. That commute is why this is a harder first international trip than Tremblant — and why the rest-day is the best non-ski itinerary on this site.

Banff is the destination. The mountains are the commute.

American parents type 'Banff with kids.' Sunshine Village and Lake Louise are the ski days; Banff town is where you sleep, grocery, soak, and walk. The SkiBig3 bus between Banff, Sunshine, Louise, and Norquay is free with a lift ticket — use it. You are not skiing out of a condo. Build slower mornings. If you wanted ski-in/ski-out, that is Sunshine's own village (a different lodging choice) or a different Canada: Tremblant, Sun Peaks, Big White.

Sunshine vs. Lake Louise vs. Norquay

Sunshine is the high-alpine village you gondola into — the one mountain of the three with actual ski-in/ski-out lodging up top, if you book it. Lake Louise is the postcard, the bigger acreage, and a bus from town; you do not ski out of Banff to get there. Norquay is the little local hill ten minutes from downtown, useful for a short day or a first look, not a week. We did not give Norquay its own Family Score page this season. Louise's winter daycare rates stay unconfirmed — the CAD figures we have are summer 2026.

Harder than Tremblant, on purpose

Tremblant is a pedestrian village you fly to Montreal and drive 90 minutes to. Banff is a national park, a border, a Calgary transfer, and a daily bus. The payoff is wildlife, hot springs, and a town that works when the alpine weather writes off a ski day. For a first international trip with a 4-year-old, Tremblant is the easier software. For a family that already skis and wants the park, Banff is the trip.
