Choose Brighton if

Beginner and intermediate families who want Wasatch snow without Park City prices, and who don't need on-mountain daycare.

  • Beginner and intermediate kids who don't need daycare.
  • Ikon or a night-ski habit from the Salt Lake valley.
  • Families who will pack lunch and skip the village.

Choose Solitude if

Families with kids 5–12 who want Wasatch snow, a quieter base, and Ikon access.

  • Ikon families with kids 5–12 who want Wasatch snow and a quieter base.
  • You can book Moonbeam lodging or accept the canyon drive.
  • Parents who will ski away from the pod once lessons start.

The tradeoff

Brighton is honest greens (21% beginner), night skiing, $450–$750 family-of-4 days, and no on-mountain daycare. Solitude is Moonbeam, a quieter base, limited toddler care, and a village that is not a town. Brighton’s base sits at 8,755 feet — that is the altitude guide, not a brochure adjective. If a 3-year-old needs a room, Brighton is not the trip. If you wanted night skiing and a cheaper day, Solitude is extra mountain.
